I just decided to nab a few of these apps while I was feeling social and acquired a kik account. Kik is a social app where you add friends and you can message and multi-media message anyone of your choosing. Key words: anyone. That means ANYONE can add you and message you. If you know where I am going with this, then you have assumed that I received a message that I did NOT want to receive. A fellow church member of mine has a kik and apparently his account was hacked. I opened the picture thinking it was him and I was shocked at what I saw.
The moral of this story is: please keep profiles as private as possible and block messages from non-friends. Even so, the risk of spam is still high. Just don't open messages from random people you haven't talked to in a while or you might not like what you see!
